Introduction to the main types of lubricants


Lubricant is an additive that can improve the flowability of plastic processing. Its structure generally consists of two parts: non polar long chains and polar groups. In addition to improving melt flowability, it also has functions such as promoting melting, facilitating demolding, preventing static electricity, and preventing adhesion. Lubricants are divided into three types, including fatty acid amide lubricants, hydrocarbon lubricants, and siloxane lubricants. 1. Fatty acid amide lubricants

(1) Stearic acid amide: White or light yellow brown powder, relative density 0.96, molecular weight 283, melting point 98-103 ℃, insoluble in water, soluble in hot ethanol, chloroform, and ether. It has excellent external lubrication effect, film detachment, transparency, dispersibility, glossiness, electrical insulation, and is non-toxic. It is a resin processing lubricant for PVC, PS, urea formaldehyde, and other resins. It can also be used as a lubricant and anti adhesion agent for polyolefins. The general dosage is 0.1%~2.0%.

(2) Ethylene Bistearamide (EBS): White or milky white powder or granular substance. Relative density 0.98, molecular weight 593, melting point 142 ℃, insoluble in water, soluble in hot chlorinated hydrocarbons and aromatic solvents. It is widely used as smoothing agent, anti adhesion agent, lubricant and antistatic agent. Non toxic, suitable for internal and external lubricants of PE, PP, PS, ABS resins, and thermosetting plastics. The general dosage is 0.2%~2.0%.

(3) Oleamide: White powder, fragment, or bead like substance. Relative density 0.90, molecular weight 281, melting point 68-79 ℃, insoluble in water, soluble in many solvents such as ethanol. Non toxic, it can be used as a lubricant and anti stick agent for plastics such as PE, PP, PA, etc., improving processing and molding performance. It also has an anti-static effect and can reduce the adhesion of dust on the surface of products. It is a good internal lubricant in PVC processing and molding.

(4) Erucamide: Similar in shape, performance, and use to oleamide, but better than oleic amide.

(5) Butyl stearate (BS): light yellow liquid, relative density 0.855~0.862, soluble in most organic solvents, slightly soluble in glycerol, ethylene glycol and some amines, compatible with ethyl cellulose, partially compatible with cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate butyrate, chlorinated rubber, etc. BS is non-toxic and serves as an internal lubricant for resin processing. It has waterproof properties and good thermal stability, and can be used in coatings. Although incompatible with PVC, it can be used as a lubricant and release agent for extrusion, injection molding, and rolling of PVC transparent sheets. The general dosage is 0.5%~1.0%.

(6) Glycerol Trihydroxystearate: Powder like substance, melting point 85-87 ℃, non-toxic, with excellent heat resistance and flowability. It can be used as a lubricant and lubricant for PVC, ABS, MBS, and as a release agent for synthetic rubber. The general dosage is 0.25%~1.5%.
