Properties and application conditions of nine plastic heat stabilizers

To make plastic film products, we can't do without stabilizer. What role do stabilizers play in plastic processing? What are the functions of stabilizers? 1. What is the function of adding stabilizer to plastics?

Adding stabilizer to PVC resin is mainly to prevent or alleviate the decomposition of this resin in the process of high-temperature plasticization and the effect of light and oxygen in the environment on it in the process of use after product molding, so as to change the performance of this product and shorten the service life of the product; In addition, adding this stabilizer before resin processing will also reduce the difficulty of PVC resin processing molded products.

The stabilizer shall have the following functions:

① It can inhibit or prevent resin degradation and prolong the service life of products.

② It can absorb ultraviolet rays or shield the damage of ultraviolet rays to the resin.

③ It has certain antioxidant effect and prevents degradation and discoloration of plastic products.

④ When added into the mixture dominated by PVC resin, it shall not have chemical reaction with other additives and will not affect the performance of products.

Stabilizers can be classified into heat stabilizers, antioxidants and light stabilizers according to their functions.

2. What are the properties and application conditions of common heat stabilizers?

Heat stabilizer is an indispensable assistant in the molding process of PVC, a heat sensitive resin. A certain proportion of heat stabilizer is added to PVC resin to prevent resin decomposition during high-temperature molding processing.

Common heat stabilizers and applications are as follows:

① Tribasic lead sulfate (3PbO), with excellent heat resistance and electrical insulation, is stable to light and does not change color, but has poor compatibility and decomposition, and is toxic. It is suitable for PVC opaque products, such as soft products such as pipe, board and artificial leather. The dosage is 0.5% ~ 5%.

② Lead dibasic phosphite (2PbO) has excellent thermal stability and weather resistance, but poor compatibility and dispersion and is toxic. It is suitable for the molding of PVC opaque products, such as cables, wires, tubes and plates. It has synergistic effect with tribasic lead sulfate and dibasic lead stearate, and the dosage is 1% ~ 5%.

③ Dibasic lead stearate, insoluble in water, toxic. It is suitable to be used as auxiliary agent for PVC cable, film, artificial leather and pipe products. It has thermal stability and light stability. The general dosage is not more than 3%.

④ Lead Stearate (PBST), melting point 95 ~ 120 ℃, is easy to be polluted by sulfide. It is suitable for opaque soft and hard PVC products, and the dosage is no more than 2%.

⑤ Barium Stearate (BST), with a melting point of about 205 ℃, is insoluble in water. It is suitable for soft transparent PVC board, artificial leather, hard board, pipe and other products. The dosage is 0.5% ~ 2%.

⑥ Cadmium Stearate (CDST), melting point at about 100 ℃, insoluble in water. It is suitable for soft transparent PVC products. It is a thermal stability and light stability additive for products. The general dosage is 0.2% ~ 1.5%.

Calcium Stearate (CAST), melting point 125 ~ 150 ℃, insoluble in water. It is suitable to be used as heat stabilizer and processing lubricant for PVC products, and the dosage is generally no more than 2.5%.

⑧ Zinc Stearate (LNST), melting point 120 ~ 130 ℃, insoluble in water. The air mixture of dust is explosive. It is not suitable to be used alone. It is mostly combined with other soap salts. It is suitable to be used as an assistant for soft PVC products. The general dosage is no more than 1%. It has the function of thermal stability and light stability assistant.

⑨ Dibutyltin Dilaurate (DBTL), freezing point 16 ~ 23 ℃. It can be used in combination with barium and cadmium salts. It is suitable for soft and transparent PVC products. It can also be used in combination with maleic acid and mercaptan organotin as additives for rigid PVC products. The dosage is generally between 0.3% ~ 1%.
