Application of Polyethylene Wax in Color Masterbatch - Sainuo wax

Polyethylene wax plays a very important role in the production of color masterbatch. Today, in this article, Sainuo will take you to understand the addition of polyethylene wax to color masterbatch.

Color masterbatch is the most representative type of plastic masterbatch, and polyethylene wax is widely used in color masterbatch processing. The purpose of adding pe wax is not only to improve the processing performance of the masterbatch system, but also to promote the dispersion of pigments in the masterbatch. The dispersion of pigments is crucial for color masterbatches, and the quality of the masterbatch mainly depends on the dispersion status of the pigments. A well dispersed pigment masterbatch has a high coloring power, resulting in good coloring quality of the product and low coloring cost. Polyethylene wax can improve the dispersion level of pigments to a certain extent and is the most commonly used dispersant in the production of color masterbatches.

When processing a color masterbatch system containing polyethylene wax, the polyethylene wax melts before the carrier resin and is coated on the surface of the pigment. Due to its low viscosity and good compatibility with pigments, polyethylene wax is easier to wet pigments and can penetrate into the internal pores of pigment aggregates, weakening cohesion and making pigment aggregates easier to open under external shear. Newborn chestnuts can also be quickly wetted and protected. In addition, polyethylene wax can play a role in reducing system viscosity and improving flowability, so adding polyethylene wax during masterbatch production can improve production efficiency and increase yield.

For color masterbatches containing difficult to disperse pigments(such as carbon black, phthalocyanine series pigments, etc.), polyethylene wax with narrow molecular weight distribution and suitable molecular weight size must be selected. 

If the molecular weight of polyethylene wax is too large, the melt viscosity of polyethylene wax is too high, which is not conducive to effective wetting and penetration of pigment aggregates by polyethylene wax: On the contrary, if the molecular weight of polyethylene wax is too low, the melt viscosity of polyethylene wax is too small, which is not conducive to the effective transmission of shear force, and the pigment aggregates are not easily opened. Within a certain range, an increase in the amount of polyethylene wax results in an increase in the dispersibility of pigments. However, if the amount of polyethylene wax is too high, it is not conducive to the dispersion of difficult to disperse pigments, as an excessive amount of polyethylene wax can significantly reduce the melt viscosity of the masterbatch system, thereby weakening the effect of shear force.
