Calcium stearate, white powder, insoluble in water, cold ethanol and ethyl alcohol, soluble in organic solvents such as hot benzene, benzene and turpentine, slightly soluble in hot ethanol and ethyl alcohol. When heated to 400C, it decomposes slowly and is flammable. In case of strong acid, it decomposes into stearic acid and corresponding calcium salt, which has hygroscopicity. It is mainly used as stabilizer, lubricant, paint smoothing agent, lubricant for pencil lead, etc. Sainuo calcium stearate has no sulfur pollution, with good long-term thermal stability, good lubrication and demoulding performance.

As an additive, calciumstearate has been widely used in chemical industry and is an indispensable additive in many industries. However, it should be paid more attention in use, because it is likely to affect product quality or failure. The following is a brief introduction to the matters needing attention when using calcium stearate.

(1) The amount of calcium stearate added to PVC transparent products shall not be greater than 0.5 parts, otherwise the transparency of PVC transparent products will be affected.

(2) The addition amount of calcium stearate in the lead salt composite stabilizer should be strictly controlled. Excessive addition will lead to superplasticization and angle, and will lead to the decline of mechanical strength.

(3) In the calcium zinc composite heat stabilizer system, the proportion of calcium stearate is too low, which will make the initial thermal stability of PVC products poor. If the proportion is too high, it will lead to its yellow color and poor weather resistance;

(4) After adding calcium stearate, the decomposition temperature of AC foaming agent will drop from 211 ℃ to 162 ℃, so pay attention to appropriately increase the amount of stabilizer when using.

2. Production method of calcium stearate

(1) Direct method

Add a certain amount of stearic acid and CaO into the reaction pot equipped with stirrer and thermometer, heat it up to melt, slowly add catalyst H2O2 under continuous stirring, and vacuum it, control the reaction temperature at 140 ~ 150, and react for 1.5 ~ 2.0h. After the reaction is completed, the product is obtained by discharging, cooling and crushing.

(2) Double decomposition method

Dissolve stearic acid in 20 times the mass of hot water, add saturated caustic soda solution, and carry out saponification reaction at about 75 to produce dilute sodium stearate solution. Then add the calcium chloride solution with the content of 1074kg/m3 to the sodium stearate solution, and carry out the double decomposition reaction at about 65. The product calcium stearate is precipitated. Then, after filtration, washing and drying at about 90, the finished product is obtained.

3. Application of calcium stearate

(1) It is used as a non-toxic heat stabilizer for PVC and has excellent lubricity. It is commonly used in food packaging films, medical appliances and other soft products requiring non-toxic. It can be used in hard products with basic lead salt and lead soap to improve the gel speed. This product is used in polyethylene and polypropylene to eliminate the adverse effects of residual catalyst on the color and stability of the resin. This product is also widely used as lubricant and release agent for thermosetting plastics such as polyolefin, polyester reinforced plastics, phenolic resin, amino resin, etc. The disadvantage of this product is that it has initial coloring. When heated above 100 ℃ for a long time, the white PVC plastic will turn reddish, especially when titanium dioxide is present in the formula. When the dosage of this product is large, there is segregation and scaling.

(2) It is used as lubricating and unblocking agent in oilfield operation. It is also used as heat stabilizer of PVC, lubricant and release agent for various plastic processing. It is also used in food packaging, medical appliances and other soft films and appliances that require no toxicity. It can also be used as halogen absorber for polyethylene and polypropylene to eliminate the adverse effects of residual catalyst on color and stability. As a plasticizer in rubber processing, it can soften natural rubber and synthetic rubber, but has little effect on vulcanization. It is also used as thickener of lubricating grease, waterproof agent of textiles, smoothing agent of paint, plasticizer in the manufacture of plastic records, etc.

(3) Calcium stearate is a good non-toxic heat stabilizer and lubricant. It is also a smoothing agent and water resistant agent for adhesives and coatings. It is widely used in chemical production processes such as plastics and rubber. But it is cheap and easy to get, with low toxicity and good processing performance. It has synergistic effect with zinc soap and epoxy compound, which can improve the thermal stability. It is commonly used in food packaging films, medical appliances and other soft products requiring non-toxic. It is also widely used as a lubricant and release agent for thermosetting plastics such as polyolefins, polyester reinforced plastics, phenolic resins, amino resins, etc.

(4) Used in cosmetics for perfume powder. When added to the fragrant powder, it has strong adhesion to the powder, good lubricity, even spreading, and good formability of the fragrant powder.
