1. Action principle of Zinc stearate

People wash their hands with soap. The main ingredients of soap are Sodium stearate, Sodium laurate, etc. The hands are very slippery when using soap to wash their hands. When people cannot take off their bracelets, they can easily take them off with a little soapy water. This is the role of demolding and surface lubrication.

So we found that in the manufacturing process of masterbatch, after adding Zinc stearate, the screw current will drop a lot, and the network pressure will also drop. It feels that the material is smooth and has good fluidity. This is a layer of lubricating film formed by Zinc stearate between the metals of the screw and the filter screen in the molten state, and more importantly, Zinc stearate can form a lubricating dispersion between calcium powder and plastic in the molten state, which is the same as the principle of hand applied soap.

Zinc stearate, as a high cost performance raw material in the manufacture of masterbatch, has been popular for so many years. But it is not suitable for all masterbatches, as some masterbatches need to consider precipitation, water carrying capacity, electrical resistivity, etc.

2. The production process of non-woven fabrics

The production of non-woven fabrics involves polypropylene raw materials mixed with a certain proportion of filling masterbatch. The color masterbatch is melted through a single screw and then passed through a filtering device (150 mesh -180 mesh). Then, it is fed into the box through a metering pump, and pressure is applied to the box before being sprayed out from the spinneret plate (spinneret aperture 0.4-0.45 mm) below the box. The filter screen on the spinneret plate is approximately 180 mesh.

After melting through the screw, the melt is transported to the box by a metering pump. At this point, there is no longer the shear force of the screw, only the pressure conveyed by the metering pump, and the 180 mesh filter material needs to pass through the spinneret twice to be sprayed out smoothly. This requires extremely high demolding performance of the material. If the demolding performance is not good, the melt receives a large force on the filter screen of the screw box, and it will release this force when it is sprayed out, Causing problems such as slurry dripping, sticking to the board, and thread looping.

All masterbatches are based on the production equipment and production process of downstream customers. Zinc stearate is particularly suitable for non-woven fabric filling masterbatch, but not necessarily for other masterbatches. However, the amount of non-woven fabric filling zinc should also be limited, because the zinc salt has a very bad problem, which is high-temperature carbonization. There are also many factories with poor zinc quality purity, and the quality of stearic acid used is poor, Excessive addition can cause mold mouth precipitation, etc.

3. The simplest way to detect Zinc stearate

First, choose zinc from large factories or Zinc stearate from Qingdao Sainuo; Secondly, after melting, the normal state is close to transparency; The third is to measure the melting point. The melting point of zinc is about 120 degrees. If the boiling water melts immediately, it must be adulterated; The fourth is to start the machine and give it a try, to see the current, pressure, and melting point.
