The difference between zinc stearate and stearic acid

Function and purposes of zinc stearate

(1) Zinc stearate can be used as a heat stabilizer; Lubricants; Lubricating grease; Accelerator; Thickener, etc. For example, zinc stearate can be used as a heat stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride resin. it can be used for general industrial transparent products; When used in combination with calcium soap, it can be used for non-toxic products, generally for soft products. However, in recent years, hard and transparent products such as mineral water bottles and water pipes have been used. 

(2) Zinc stearate has good lubricity, can improve the appearance of scaling and precipitation, and can also be used as a lubricant, mold release agent, and paint smoothing agent. Paint additives.

Function and purposes of  Stearic acid

(1) Mainly used for the production of stearates: sodium stearate, magnesium stearate, calcium stearate, lead stearate, aluminum stearate, cadmium stearate, iron stearate, and potassium stearate.

(2) Widely used in cosmetics, plastic cold resistant plasticizers, release agents, stabilizers, surfactants, rubber vulcanization accelerators, waterproofing agents, polishing agents, metal soaps, metal mineral flotation agents, softeners, pharmaceuticals, and other organic chemicals.

(3) In addition, it can also be used as a solvent for oil soluble pigments, a wax pencil smoother, a wax paper polishing agent, and a glyceryl stearate emulsifier.

(4) Used as a lubricant, defoamer, and food additive in the food industry.

(5) Stearic acid is widely used in the manufacturing of PVC plastic pipes, plates, profiles, and films. It is a thermal stabilizer for PVC, with good lubricity and light and thermal stability. Stearic acid helps to prevent coking during the processing of PVC plastic pipes. Adding stearic acid during the processing of PVC films is an effective heat stabilizer that can prevent film discoloration caused by sulfide exposure.

3. Different characteristics

Zinc stearate characteristics

Zinc stearate appears as a white powder, soluble in hot organic solvents such as ethanol, benzene, toluene, and turpentine, and decomposes into stearic acid and corresponding salts when exposed to acid. There is a fire hazard under dry conditions, with a spontaneous ignition point of 900 degrees Celsius and good moisture absorption.

Stearic acid characteristics

The pure product is a glossy white soft small piece. Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in alcohol, acetone, and easily soluble in benzene, chloroform, ether, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, amyl acetate, and toluene. Non toxic.
